                      About

Maslenitsa means many things to the Russian culture and has been observed in a variety of ways throughout history.  See what Wikipedia has to say about Maslentisa.  We are observing Maslenitsa as a celebration of culture and food that marks the last week before Great Lent and symbolizes saying goodbye to Winter.  This is an all ages event, with fun for everyone.

                      Who?

Anyone and everyone is welcome.  Please share this invite/information with those that may have interest.  Expect a large presence from the Russian speaking community.  A great way to network and meet new people and see old friends.

                      Cost

There is a recommended donation for those that attend of $4 a person or $10 a family.  Checks can be written to the “KRCA”.  Any funds raised beyond the cost of the event will be utilized to support other cultural community events and children’s programming.

                      What to Expect

Food, childrens games, contests for adults, musical performances, and more.

Dress warm!  Outside activities are not required, but portions of the event will take place outdoors.  Make sure little ones have hats and gloves.

Bring  food!  Traditionally, blini (crepe like pancakes, often stuffed with fruit or cheese) are the main food item of Maslenitsa.  However, you are welcome to bring any dish to share.  All food will be potluck style, so don’t come empty handed!  Please note that some observing Eastern Orthodox may not be eating meat this week, so it’s recommended to bring a meat-free dish, but not required.  It may be a good idea to bring something to drink as well, we hope to have water and hot tea available.  Alcohol is permitted at the park as long as it is not consumed in the parking lot.

Celebrate Culture!  This is a great time to showcase the scarf you brought back from your last trip to Russia, or the hat you bought in the Ukraine.  Do you play an instrument?  Bring it along!

Attendees will have an opportunity to buy unique goods!  The KRCA will have a variety of items for sale for those that are interested, with the possibility of additional vendors.  If you are interested in being a vendor, please contact us.  The cost is minimal, but so is the space, vendors may need to be willing to showcase wares outside.
